Electronic Article Surveillance (EAS)
Electronic article surveillance, or EAS, is an anti-shoplifting system that is designed to protect merchandise against theft, while allowing honest customers to browse and store associates to spend more time on customer service. Tags (hard or soft) that are attached to merchandise by store associates, or are ‘source tagged’ (already contained in or on the packaging when received), will cause an alarm to activate as they pass between pedestals mounted at the store entrance/exit if not deactivated at the point of sale.
Ace Hardware Retail Loss Prevention's preferred vendor-partner, ADT-Sensormatic, is our preferred EAS vendor-partner. The Sensormatic system uses Acousto-Magnetic technology, which has a high reliability factor, resulting in lower maintenance requirements and a low rate of false alarms.
EAS is a popular and cost-effective deterrent to shoplifting. If your store is located in an area where there is a threat of significant losses to shoplifters, or you are experiencing substantial losses to shoplifters, we strongly suggest you consider EAS.
